Dr. Jamie Marich, Host of Recovery Matters
Many people have called Jamie Marich a true renaissance woman. Not only is she a professional clinical counselor with a lively private practice and a speaker/trainer on the national circuit, she has enjoyed success as a writer, online curriculum developer and teacher, musician, recording artist, and high school speech and debate coach. Throughout her life, Jamie has taken on a wide range of hobbies from figure skating and dancing to film study and baseball. A native of Youngstown, OH, Jamie enjoys travel and had the opportunity to spend almost three years living in her ancestral homelands of Bosnia-Hercegovina and Croatia following the wars in those countries. While working in humanitarian aid, primarily as an English instructor, Jamie entered her personal recovery from addiction, and was made aware of her calling in life to help others.
Jamie has worked in mental health residential treatment, and in chemical dependency treatment as an inpatient, outpatient, and dual diagnosis counselor. Jamie currently works for a group practice, PsyCare, Inc. in Youngstown, OH, where she specializes in addiction treatment (chemical & behavioral), PTSD/issues related to abuse and trauma, peak performance enhancement, dissociative disorders, spiritual issues (including recovery from spiritual abuse), cross-cultural issues, consultation/mentoring, grief/loss, group therapy. Jamie also teaches for several reputable online universities, and she offers original workshops for counselors and social workers on a regular basis, primarily for CMI Education Institute. In addition to her formal education and work experience, Jamie has obtained advanced training in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and trauma. Jamie is trained in an advanced technique for the treatment of PTSD called Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and she has actively implemented this technique into her own counseling practice. Jamie is a Certified EMDR Therapist and Approved Consultant through the EMDR International Association. In 2008, Jamie was the 1st place outstanding poster research winner at the EMDRIA annual conference, and she was honored with several peer reviewed publications in 2009 and 2010 on her work with EMDR, including a publication in the American Psychological Association's Psychology of Addictive Behaviors (September 2010). Jamie is also a member of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, the International Center for Clinical Excellence, and the Ohio Counseling Association. Her first major book The Four Faces of EMDR: Simplifying Solutions for Complex Clients is currently in press with Premiere Education Solutions, and her dissertation EMDR in Addiction Continuing Care has been published in Germany with VDM Verlag (available on Amazon in English).
