To set the tone for the 13-week pilot run of the show, we will be discussing the very concept of recovery: what it is, and what it means to various people. Two very special guests will be helping me explore this issue, representing the professional perspective, and the perspective of the recovering individual.

Christina Delos Reyes, MD is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Even though I have my own story with recovery, and my own insights on what has worked best for me, it excites me to think that this program can serve as place where many different perspectives can meet to discuss solutions. In both my professional and personal life, it has long upset me when I hear people exclaiming that their approach is the one, right way to go about doing something. I hope that this show will be the antithesis of that.

I think that you, as listeners, will get to know more about me as the show unfolds. I would like to share one story with you from my personal experience that I feel will give you an idea about where I am going with the show. My soon-to-be-husband and I met in treatment...hold up...no, we weren't patients there :-) Rather, we were both on staff at a treatment center, and I got to know him overly lively, spirited lunch discussions at a picnic table during the warm summer months. Something my future husband said impressed me a quite deal: "When it comes to treating addiction, we have to look at it as an 'all of the above' approach. There are so many different answers out there to addressing this terrible problem, and we can't assume the one option is always the right one." Since that day over 5 years ago, I have looked at addiction-recovery issues through an "all of the above" lens. I'm not saying this to suggest that we should just throw random treatments at a client and see which one sticks; rather, as professionals, it is our responsibility to keep searching for answers until we find something that works for an individual person in their quest for recovery.
